What the iPhone OS 3.0 update might really mean
File this under random concert days. All the stories of the next Apple iPhone OS 3.0, I think. And on reflection, I began to extrapolate. And if Apple is trying to beat Android in the mobile market with a partner / Internet / mini-notebook as a gadget?
We have already heard the story of migration smartphone Android mobile handset and other Internet devices. Asus spoke a version of its Android-based Eee PC NETBOOK series, and an android Archos Internet Tablet is based on plans, or product which is expected before the end of 2009. Recently, the rumor mill has been rife with speculation on a NETBOOK Apple device as soon.
Enter Apple with its highly functional iPhone OS 3.0. Regardless of the constraints implied the name “iPhone OS” gave him, the possibilities are endless for a mobile gadget that could run this operating system software. If Apple can repeat the success of their marriage iPhone hardware with software on other devices, could easily become a dominant force early in portable equipment.
I imagine an Apple for the usual spots, striking industrial design, a device that is easy to use, a device that can be just as special player, companion productivity (and yes, Apple finally requiring the addition of support for cut and paste), Internet and gaming machines. Applications for the above, therefore, and certainly more could come. And interoperability and sharing with the interface of the iPhone and iPod Touch might soon announce the rule if Apple could get enough traction with their machines.
In my imagination, this device to the Amazon Kindle 2 to become the next true device connected to a device that is seamlessly integrated 3G connectivity. Perhaps a basic level of connection that came with the device (eg, Kindle 2 does not charge extra for their connectivity is available, but you’re not downloading large files and graphics on Web pages on the Kindle, either), or you pass a plan that will not break the bank (such as 3G data plans for laptops today).
If Apple was to take the time to put the iPhone OS devices beyond the iPhone and iPod touch is not the first time, a mobile operating system rose from the headset to the device. Ignore for a moment about the future devices based on Android, Microsoft has opened the way for this path with its Windows CE operating system for more than a decade. The problem is, the Windows CE operating system to a predecessor of what is now called Windows Mobile is not only easy to use. Nor devices. Apple iPhone OS is already light years ahead of Windows CE in the Department of ease of use, and the device is now the potential of light years to come, too.
