ical on desktop 129x300 Display iCal Events and a To Do list on your desktopRecently, I tried different ways to display the current day events and to-dos in iCal on my desktop. I wanted a way to quickly check what I have to do that day without having to open iCal, Dashboard or any application, and finally I found a method I was happy. The screenshot below shows how I made mine, but it is quite easy to customize to their own needs. Here are the steps to take if you want to do it yourself.

1. Get iCalBuddy and GeekTool
For this you need to download two (free) applications. The first GeekTool is a preference pane that lets you view image files and shell scripts on the desktop. The second is iCalBuddy, a command line utility that allows you to access events and pending tasks, without having to open iCal.

GeekTool download and install it by double-clicking on the preferences. Now you can access by going to System Preferences and look for the bottom line.

Download iCalBuddy from here and double-click it to unzip the folder. The installation is a little bit complicated. Open up Terminal (located in Applications/Utilities) and type cd followed by a space. Now drag the iCalBuddy folder onto the Terminal window and hit Enter. Finally, type sudo ./install.sh and hit enter. To test if everything is installed properly, try typing in icalbuddy eventsToday, which should bring up a list of today’s events.

Review: Apple iWork 2009

iwork09box w300 Review: Apple iWork 2009

The response from Apple to Microsoft Office is a renewal of winter

iWork has always had a reputation of “boring” software over lightly software Apple iLife. Updates iWork May 2009 to not be as flamboyant as his pleasure, but changes in Keynote, the page numbers and are well worth the extra money.

Keynote
This is where the main changes for 2009 include the software update. Viewing a Keynote presentation, it will be like watching paint dry beige, but now the slide can be animated, rather than simply dissolved.

Magic Move encourages basically one slide to another. If the subject of a slide is the same as above, but in a different position, Magic Move recognize this and make it seem to be their new dance. Updates are made in real time, so that the preview window is always up to date.

138644 iwebftp original 300x275 Review: iWeb ’09

Apple iWeb goal is to give the home and non-professional users an easy way to create and maintain vibrant, personal sites without knowing the complex mechanics of the difficult construction of technology on the Web. With the FTP capabilities and powerful new widgets, iWeb’09 doing this job by far. Despite its powerful features, it is surprising how easy it is to use.

Interface updates

In this version of iWeb, the methodology for the design of a site remains unchanged. All design work is done in a window, accompanied by four palettes: Inspector, fonts, colors, and adjustment. Media Browser, where you can find photos, music and videos, which adjoins the main window as a new style box, and a Show / Hide Media button appears in the toolbar. Also new on the toolbar are the Add Page (replacing the more mysterious), a publication of the site, and buttons of the visit. Gone are the Web Widgets button and out.

File -> New Web site launched a model order selection where you can choose from 27 themes (two are new, there remains a gap). Select the first page of this topic in the series: white, Welcome, About Me, Blog, Podcast, Photos, My Albums (Photo Gallery), or the film. The site and add pages that appear in the sidebar. By clicking on any page that appears on the canvas of the web page where you can then edit and add content to it.

As always, the media can add to their pages from the Media Browser, drag an image from the Finder, or drag a file or an image in the Media Browser. The posting of multimedia features have not changed, although I expect to see iPhoto () and a larger image ratings in this version. More »
