Computerworld reviews Apple’s new 17-inch MacBook Pro: Impressive, even for gaming

March 24th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Uncategorized

macbook pro Computerworld reviews Apple’s new 17 inch MacBook Pro: Impressive, even for gaming“Is the new 17-in. MacBook Pro the ultimate gaming laptop Mac users have long been waiting for?” Tom Lupien asks for Computerworld.

“In stock form, this Macbook Pro goes for $2,799,” Lupien reports. “But the review unit sent to us by Apple was stuffed with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB solid-state disk drive and the faster 2.93-GHz Core 2 Duo processor, shooting the price to $4,849. (That’s actually $200 less than it cost a few weeks back, now that Apple is charging $1,000 for the extra RAM.)”

“Is the MacBook Pro worth that much to gamers? It could be, depending on what you expect from your gaming laptop. I spent last weekend running the new 17-incher side by side with my older MacBook Pro — it has the 2.33-GHz Core 2 Duo and I have to tell you, I’m impressed,” Lupien reports. “I’ve never seen frame rates like this on a Mac!”

“Is it this the Mac gaming laptop that I’ve been waiting for? Why, yes — yes it is. Or rather, it would be if I had extra money lying around. That’s because I love my Macs and I use them for everything I do. A Mac to me is still the best hardware and software combo there is,” Lupien reports. “Basically, if you’re a Mac user and can afford it, this is a good gaming laptop. And remember, sticking with 4GB of RAM shaves $1,000 off the price and shouldn’t make a big difference in how it performs.”

Dear Apple: Could We Have a Faster Way to Toggle Bluetooth on the iPhone?

March 24th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in iPhone, iPhone 3G

iphone bluetooth a2dp 250x400 187x300 Dear Apple: Could We Have a Faster Way to Toggle Bluetooth on the iPhone?Dieter asked a while a quick way to change the flight mode on the iPhone – a triple-click the Start button, maybe. Yesterday he was, and I talk about all the new features of the iPhone Bluetooth 3.0 and it was a point – at this time, enable or disable Bluetooth, you must:

Wake up iPhone, slide to unlock, (perhaps a type of password), (possibly to return), click Settings, click General, click Bluetooth, then turn the switch ON / OFF.

This large amount of overhead in terms of mental “work” and physical interaction.

With Bluetooth headsets, speakers, stereo Bluetooth, Bluetooth connectivity for accessories, the immobilization of Bluetooth connectivity, P2P applications and games of P2P sharing, and so much faster way to change the Bluetooth phone would be greatly appreciated.

May triple-click does not work in terms of ease of use, but surely there must be another way? Perhaps the ON / OFF on the Main Settings page, just before the drilling boom? Jeremy thinks that enables users to add shortcuts configuration as icons on the main screen (as we do now with the bookmarks in Safari) work. Anyone have other ideas?
