Slows, but continues, the growth of the smartphone market in the world. Nokia loses strokes but remains inaccessible and Apple with its iPhone rises to third place behind Research in Motion, the Canadian manufacturer of BlackBerry.
The number of models sold in the third quarter of 2008 rose only 11, 5% over the same period last year. It would be a most flattering if that was not the lowest growth rate recorded by smartphone since Gartner began tracking this specific area in between the PC and mobile phones.
However, despite the braking caused by the global economic crisis, for the quarter between July and September were sold a total 36.5 million smart phones, the 42.4% of which have the Nokia brand.
